What the Joe Troyer Cold Email Masterclass Builds
Most cold email training stops at the email. The Cold Email Masterclass starts with the offer. Joe Troyer opens Week 1 by saying the training has been “years and years in the making” and that the same cold email sales funnel model was responsible for four people generating over $597,000 in recurring revenue over six weeks. The sessions are recorded live and workshop-style, with homework every week.
The core idea of the Cold Email Masterclass is simple. You don’t pitch a $2,000-a-month service to a stranger in a cold email. You offer something valuable for free, deliver it, earn the owner’s attention, and then pitch your core offer. Along the way, every free foot-in-the-door client is also a chance to collect a Google review and ask for referrals. One coaching client, Joe Troyer says, added $35,000 a month in recurring revenue from referrals alone over 60 days.
“I need you guys to understand that the foot in the door isn’t going to make you rich. It’s a free foot in the door. The way that you make money is by delivering your foot in the door service for free, wowing your prospect and you being able to make a pitch for your main or what we call your core offer.” — Week 1, Creating the Ultimate Foot in the Door
The Funnel Math Behind the Cold Email Masterclass
Before any copywriting, Week 1 walks through what Joe Troyer calls “the roadmap to $10,000 a month inside month one.” The numbers are deliberately conservative:
The Foot-in-the-Door Requirements
- Perceived value of at least $299. If the prospect thinks the free thing is worthless, nobody claims it.
- Congruent with the core offer. A free Google My Business (GMB) optimization leads into local SEO; a free social media makeover doesn’t lead into Google Ads.
- A free and a paid version. A free partial service, plus a full paid version for roughly $100–$500 one time.
- A recurring core offer of $1,000+ a month that doesn’t end after three months, with two or three price points. Joe Troyer sold lead gen and pay-per-call at $1,000, $1,500 and $3,000.
- Better contracts. A 12-month agreement with a cancel window around day 90 and auto-renewal; Joe says it roughly doubled his average contract length.
Week 2: Mapping the Cold Email Campaign Funnel
Week 2 of the Cold Email Masterclass lays out the whole path a prospect takes: cold email → landing page and opt-in (or straight to the calendar) → confirmation page → setup call → you deliver the free service → upsell call. The setup call collects what you need to deliver (for a GMB optimization: registered name, phone, address, manager access) and builds desire for the core offer.
The sequence is four emails, two to three business days apart, so it runs for 8–12 business days and never on weekends. It also has to be “smart”: once someone books, emails two to four stop. Anyone who doesn’t buy at the end goes into an indoctrination sequence that positions you as the expert before your next offer. On no-shows, Joe Troyer puts cold prospects at up to 50%, versus around 10–15% at most for warm prospects in his pay-per-call mastermind.
Week 3: Cold Email Copy and Deliverability
“Cold Email Domination” is the heart of the Cold Email Masterclass: a 1h 34m session on writing the sequence, plus three short technical videos. The angles were tested over “literally hundreds of thousands of cold emails,” yet Joe Troyer tells you not to paste his swipe as-is — learn the structure so your emails don’t look like everyone else’s.
| Angle | What it does | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Problem | Shows the prospect a specific problem (unclaimed GMB, not ranking in maps, fewer than five reviews), then gives the solution, the offer, the reason why, scarcity, a call to action and a signature |
| 2 | Follow-up | A slight variation of email one, so it’s clear you won’t simply disappear |
| 3 | Right person | “If you’re not the right person, who handles marketing decisions?” — asks for approval of the offer |
| 4 | Deadline | Problem, opportunity, offer, reason why, call to action and a real deadline for scarcity |
Personalization That Goes Beyond First Name
Joe Troyer says personalization has tested at a 10–20% lift in response rate, but he doesn’t mean a first-name merge tag. In some split tests, removing first and last names changed nothing. Real personalization means pulling data on the prospect’s actual situation and making the email about them. His strongest example: a screenshot of the Google three-pack for “dentists in Miami” with a line on top saying “I don’t see you ranking.” To agitate the problem, name the competitors who outrank them and tie it back to lost business. Then add proof — call tracking or a ranking screenshot counts.
“If you don’t tell them in the email why you’re making the offer, it will crash and burn. It will not work. You will not get customers taking you up on it.” — Week 3, Cold Email Domination
The Deliverability Setup, Step by Step
- Never send from a fresh domain. SpamAssassin treats domains younger than 14 days as suspicious. Give a new sending domain two to four weeks before the first automated campaign in your sending platform (QuickMail in the early weeks; Week 2 notes the team now recommends Prospect Rocket).
- Warm up like a real user. Email people you know, subscribe to a few lists and open them (a list of 40 sites to opt into is included).
- Look human. Send as your name, not your address. Add a profile photo and a signature with a phone number, and use real names, not fake personas.
- Set SPF and DKIM in your DNS, then check them with MX Toolbox. Joe Troyer recommends Namecheap’s G Suite app for non-technical setups, on the $5-per-user basic plan.
- Protect your main domain. Keep the .com for opted-in email only. Spread cold sending across four addresses on two domains, then ramp up from a couple of emails a day to 100–200 per account.
If you want a second take on outreach copy and volume, Cold Email Mastery 2.0 pairs well with this week’s material.
Weeks 4–6: Live Reviews, Scaling and Relaunching
Real Member Funnels, Reviewed on Screen
Week 4 is the proof section of the Cold Email Masterclass: a live session plus nine recorded reviews of members’ offer ladders (free foot in the door → paid foot in the door → core offer), and in some cases their emails and landing pages too. Dave’s “10 free Facebook leads” for chiropractors gets turned down; Joe says giving away leads has tested poorly as a foot in the door. Elizabeth’s offer for the flooring niche gets praise: a Facebook page plus three months of posts, five times a week, worth $300 retail, delivered in 30 minutes or less. Mick is told to drop his reputation report and lead with the custom review page.
From MVP Funnel to “Mother Funnel”
Week 5 turns the bare-bones MVP funnel into the full “mother funnel,” built from right to left. First come the no-show emails for setup and upsell calls. Next come retargeting snippets for Facebook, Gmail, YouTube and display, with branded campaigns at “just a dollar a day,” and a sales page for the free offer. Then you optimize: split-test subject lines (Joe says this alone has doubled claims), make simple landing page tweaks, and test the offers themselves. Copying one of his best offers into a new niche lost 50% of the takers. And know your numbers before buying traffic, or you’ll burn $200 a day on AdWords.
“You make your customers worth more to your business than their customers are worth to theirs. Why? Because then you can spend more to acquire customers. Whoever can spend the most to acquire a customer will win the arms race.” — Week 5, Scaling Your Funnel
The Self-Perpetuating Launch Model
Week 6 of the Cold Email Masterclass answers “what about everyone who opted in but didn’t buy?” They get a monthly sequence spread across the month: a case-study blog post (example: “ABC Plumbing received 33 leads last week”), a resource download, an industry-update post, a webinar announcement, a “we just added a bonus” email, and day-of reminders by email and SMS, including one 15–20 minutes before start. The webinar ends with a demo or consult offer, followed by the replay, social proof and a takeaway resource.
29 Bonus Programs From Joe Troyer
The “Available Programs” folder adds about 50 hours of Joe Troyer recordings. The highlights for a cold outreach seller:
- Predictable Revenue interview with Aaron Ross — Joe introduces him as the man behind Predictable Revenue, whose process was “doing cold emails to consults.”
- Invisible Referral Method + the AI version — call supply houses, ask who they’d refer, then call those businesses “at room temperature.” The AI session automates it with Vapi, ElevenLabs voices, Google Sheets and GoHighLevel.
- Formula 5 — Paul Lemberg’s system of improving five areas of the business by 15% each to roughly double it through compounding.
- 100 Reviews in 7 Days — the onboarding script, owner buy-in and five-minute review fulfillment call behind a review campaign.
- Pay Per Call Mastermind orientation (3h 40m) — the consult-first model behind the course; a natural next step toward Joe Troyer’s Pay Per Lead BizBox.
