What is IM Andras Toth The Beginner’s 1. e4 Repertoire for Cheap?
3 Key Principles for Success in Any Opening
How do you start a game of chess? With your first move, of course!
In this course, IM Andras Toth takes you through the opening phase of the game and shows you how to bring your pieces out in the most principled way.
Your first opening repertoire will be built around 3 key principles that IM Toth explains and emphasizes throughout the course.
🎯Central Control – You’ll learn why the center of the board is so important and then you’ll focus on controlling the key central squares.
🎯Development – getting your pieces to their ideal squares, and factoring in what your opponent does, is a crucial part of any player’s opening plan
🎯King Safety – Good opening play means finding a good spot for your king too, and IM Toth will show you the optimal placement for your king in different openings
Understanding these 3 key principles will form the foundation of every game you play – and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a great chess player.
The course covers the most likely openings you’ll face as a beginner but won’t bog you down in tons of opening theory.
♙The Sicilian Defense (1…c5) – with a simple variation called the Alapin, which cuts down all the Sicilian opening theory into one manageable variation
♙Double King Pawn Opening (1…e5) – using the simple yet dynamic Scotch game
♙French Defense (1…e6) – by claiming the center your opponent left behind and reinforcing with your knight and bishop
♙Caro-Kann Defense (1…c6) – with a similar setup as against the French, for easy memorization
♙Sidelines – there are a few more sidelines to cover but IM Toth will make sure you aren’t caught by surprise
Each opening chapter gives you some theory to learn, but crucially also explains the key concepts of each opening. The most important ideas are distilled down into easy-to-remember bites that you can incorporate into your own games.
